Running Routes in Southwark

Southwark Park Circular: 2.4km, Easy

A Grade II listed park in Bermondsey, Southwark Park has a network of flat paths, including one around the perimeter. This 2.4km route is perfect for those starting their running journey or for a short morning jog. Additionally, the park has a Sports and Athletics Centre with a six-lane 400m track where you can practise sprinting and long-distance running.

Burgess Park: 5km, Easy

If you want to set a new PB for 5km, why not practise at Burgess Park? Just a few minutes from the new Southwark apartments at The Aylesbury, this 56-hectare green space is the largest in the area. It has interconnecting pathways, so you can mix up your route to keep things interesting. 

Tower Bridge to Battersea Bridge: 10.5km, Moderate

Take in some of London’s most iconic landmarks whilst totting up your miles on The Thames Path. This 10.5km route stretches from Tower Bridge to Battersea Bridge, but you could extend it further if you want to push yourself. It winds along the River Thames, passing historic sites such as the South Bank, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.

Canada Water to Vauxhall: 25.9km, Hard

For a longer route along the Thames Path which encompasses more of Southwark’s iconic sights, head from Canada Water to Vauxhall and back again. This 25.9km trail is ideal for seasoned runners looking to stretch their distance, so if you have a marathon coming up, this is the route for you. 

Running Clubs in Southwark 

H3: Parkrun

If you’d like to train in a social setting, you can take part in the weekly Southwark parkruns or Burgess parkruns, which take place every Saturday morning at 9am. With a 5km distance, the weekly events aim to get people moving, whether running, jogging or walking. It’s free to join and open to all running abilities, fostering fun and friendly sportsmanship among the community.

London City Runners

London City Runners is a social running club that organises river runs in Southwark three times a week. The group has a clubhouse near London Bridge and welcomes all paces and abilities. It also has a separate course for beginners, ensuring you can get peer support from individuals of a similar fitness level. 

Southwark Athletics Club

Southwark Athletics Club trains at the facilities in Southwark Park and provides expert coaching for sort-distance and endurance running. You can also get tailored training for races and events to help you achieve your competitive goals.
